Tom Kelley, MA, LMFT ~ Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
7825 SW 36th Ave. Suite 202, Portland, OR 97219
Philosophy and Approach: I work with families, individuals and couples to help facilitate change that they agree is going to be most useful. I utilize Solution Focused and Narrative Therapy approaches to inform my work with people and maintain a baseline philosophy that draws heavily from Family Systems training.
My goal is to help people be more successful in their interpersonal relationships. I believe that working in collaboration with the family, individual or couple to determine what has been going well for them, then working out a plan to do more of it, leads to open dialogue about what needs to be done differently to be more successful. By helping people develop more effective strategies to use when relationships get strained, we create space to have safe and healthy communication. Change is co‐created with the clients. The clients are the experts on their lives and know best what will be sustainable. The therapeutic work done in session will allow for all parties to find ways they can work together to get to where they see themselves wanting to be. Since the clients own the changes, they can more easily be generalized to their lives.
Formal Education and Training: I hold a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Lewis and Clark College, a COAMFTE accredited program. COAMFTE accreditation holds its programs to the highest standards of Family Systems education and training and requires students to complete a rigorous and comprehensive array of coursework in addition to 500 hours of direct client contact during the internship over a period of one year before graduation. To be eligible for licensure in Oregon, one must have completed over 2000 direct client contact hours under the supervision of a licensed clinician who has met criteria to be an Approved Supervisor.
Code of Ethics: As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapistin Oregon, I will abide by the Code of Ethics established by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. My Oregon license # is T0729. OBLPCT website: http://www.oregon.gov/OBLPCT/
Continuing Education: Licensed clinicians in Oregon are required to attend 40 hrs of continuing education in the field over a two year period. Licensees are held to strict reporting and audit requirements by the board.
Fees: I charge $120 per 50 minute session, $160 for 90 minutes. I accept checks, credit/debit cards and cash. Payment for services is expected in full after each session. If you have coverage on an insurance plan and will be using your benefits, I will provide a receipt for you to send to your insurance company for reimbursement.
